Somber folk from Portland ME band Big Blood. This band keeps cranking out great album after great album. Thirteen releases since 2009, and the albums stay on the cutting edge. My favorite song is the dirge "Out of Turn". This song exemplifies all that is good with Big Blood music, a bit of a plodding beat, some experimental guitar sounds and beautifully haunted sounding vocals. Thanks to Big Blood for the download!

Outsider folk from Maine's THORN & SHOUT.  I love blue-grass based music with the Gypsy influence as THORN & SHOUT play. The male/female distinctive vocals are really set this album apart from it's contemporaries. Instruments featured on this album are guitar, banjo, viola, shruti box, bells, harmonica and banjolin. The waltz timed "All Things Magical" is my favorite song on a really strong album.
