Folk , indie, swing from Rochester based The Whale and The Warbler. Gotta love the trombone on the song "Sap".  Add trumpet and viola to that trombone on the waltz timed "Tennessee's Shrinking" and you have the recipe for a wonderful track that lurk about. Such a great song! I also really enjoy the weepy title track which builds nicely into a wall of noise.  Thanks to The Whale and The Warbler for the download!  Thanks to DC at The Waiting Room Radio Show, where I heard this wonderful music first. Electronic, experimental, hip hop, soul from London based Mas Agua. Its not often I come across blue eyed soul I enjoy, and more often than not, said artist is from the UK. That's the case with Mas Agua (David Ellis) which stays away from common soul/hip hop stereotypes which makes it a really inviting listen.  From the layered vocal goodness of the opening track to "Towers" to the sparse and emotive track "Soul" this little ep is bound with a lot of honest emotion and almost no trappings that a big label would force on the sound. There are as many open spaces as there are note on these songs, which make them winners in my book. Thanks to Mas Agua for the download!

Folk, acoustic  from Vermont based Sarah Winchester. This is a re-release of these of these songs as the were originally released via the excellent resource, Team Love Records Library.
These are some sparse and beautifully done songs. I have liked this released for a few years now.  The title track is my favorite as it has a somber beauty to it.
Thanks to Sarah Winchester and mthomeartsf or the download!

Experimental, saxophone, indie from Iowa City based Curt Oren. Curt album Home was one I played quite a bit at the end of last year. There is something refreshing about his sax playing. It takes more liberties than traditional experimental jazz does. The track "Everything's Gonna Be Okay" is my favorite. It features a recognizable rhythm that descends into noisy chaos and then returns to that rhythm. I listen to thousand of albums every year and Curt's music really stands out, in the best of ways.

Rock, ambient, drone, psychedelic from York based Black Tower White Mountain. Thanks to Black Tower White Mountain for the download!

Pop, vomit, counry, exp from Chicago based Teenage Rage.  Teenage Rage can have as many as 7 or 8 members, that crowd a small stage and sound like a country symphony, or sometimes the band is just comprised of Will Wholesome (stage name) all by his lonesome. badkitchenmadman is a Will solo album, is a lo fi offering, and it will have humming songs you never thought you would. I am particularly taken with the polka/vaudville infused song "red red walls". Also, the sad country song "as the water runs" replete with yelling and moaning, which is a staple of the Teenage Rage and a favorite of mine.
Be sure to see them live as Will is apt to do anything. Once he said he had a new song to sing that he had been working on. He played said song then stopped abruptly  and said that was as ar as he had finished writing the song!
Thanks to Teenage Rage for the download! I have a tons of concert and interview videos up under the Dedicated Ears name on youtube. Lots of great artists to check out. Here are a couple Teenage Rage videos.
