Neo-soul, r&b/soul, electronic from London based Ego Ella May. Ego's release last year was on my year end list and she picks up where she left off on Breathing Underwater.  This album features that nice mix of r&b, jazz and poetry that makes it a very dynamic release. My favorite track is "Underwater" which features cool word play as well that reminds me, in a good way, of Erykah Badu. Her sultry vocals are very memorable. Electronic, experimental, hip hop, soul from London based Mas Agua. Its not often I come across blue eyed soul I enjoy, and more often than not, said artist is from the UK. That's the case with Mas Agua (David Ellis) which stays away from common soul/hip hop stereotypes which makes it a really inviting listen.  From the layered vocal goodness of the opening track to "Towers" to the sparse and emotive track "Soul" this little ep is bound with a lot of honest emotion and almost no trappings that a big label would force on the sound. There are as many open spaces as there are note on these songs, which make them winners in my book. Thanks to Mas Agua for the download!

R&b, neo soul from London based Ego Ella May. Definitely a Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu feel to this. The hypnotic swaying track "Rush Hour Crush" is my favorite track. Love the jazz timed influences and the streamlined production that focus on the voice. Probably will find it's way on my year end list. Thanks to Ego Ella May for the download!
