Coming from the fertile indie playground in Bela Horizonte Brazil, Vitrolas play a mix of standard blues influenced rock and indie rock with Latin rhythms mixed throughout. I swear that their song "O Presente" could be in a Robert Rodriguez movie. Thanks to Vitrolas for the free download!

Jesse Bustamante and Chicago based electro-pop Collages is back with an this Memory Trash ep.   The title track furthers the more experimental side of this electronic act as it seems as if it we in a dream with the way the echo is used. Equally impressive is the more traditional (for Collages anyhow) "What Is Now" which has the island flavor that I have come to enjoy from this act. Thanks again to Jesse for another great free download!

90's indie guitar influenced pop goodness featuring a tropical feel. Add some pretty vocals and really effective production to make the perfect sunny summer ep. Thanks to os amantes invisíveis  for the free download!

Genre bending Dastardly return with a 4 track EP Ballads In Blue that is a collaborative effort (artists listed below this post) featuring musicians from some of my favorite Chicago bands. From the vaudeville inspired opener "Sentimental Blue"to the pub like yodel dissonance of "So Long Caroline" this EP is abound with surprises, much like the live shows that Dastardly play. You never know what the hell they are going to do or say or play. Such is the beauty of Dastardly. "From The Water" is a straight ahead ballad that proves the band could take a straight path musically any time they chose. And the gem of this short EP is "Blue Dreams" which features a who's who of the indie/roots scene in Chicago singing the background vocals. This track starts off a weepy traditional county tinged sing along that descends into a blissful dissonance.

Gabe and the band have put this up as a name your price download so you could download for free or donate some money to help them buy some gas for their persistent touring. At the very least make sure to see them play live. Toward that end the band is playing a record release show at Schubas on Aug 30 details and order tickets HERE. Thanks to Gabe and Dastardly for the download and I'll see you guys at Schubas.

Brazil's This Lonely Crowd  is back with Doppeldanger and Other Delicious Secrets on the Sinewave netlabel.  The influences of the like of Smashing Pumpkins on the track "Laura's Coming".  There's a post rock vibe to the instrumental "Sparky" that I like a lot. Throw in covers of Depeche Mode (Everything Counts) and Napalm Death(Lucid Fairytale) and this makes for a varied and strong album that is a must for those of us who love the 90's style big guitar. Thanks to This Lonely Crowd for the free download. Check out Sinewave as they have a ton of interesting rock music on there.

I first came across the vocal wonder of Mira on a wmfu set few years ago and was immediately struck by the fresh and unique her songs were. I recently was very happy to come across her on bandcamp. The weaving of the harmonies on "Africa Time"really stand out to me on Broken Bones. You can also get Mira's first album Signs on her bandcamp page as well. Thanks to Mira for the free download of this interesting experimental gems!
